The strong gusts of wind have been giving Duke Power some problems as limbs and trees have gone down over lines, sometimes starting a woods fire. Secretary of State Alexander M. Haig, Jr. was outraged by what he called leaks from the Reagan administration about possible U. S. action against Libya, U. S. spokesman Dean Fischer said Wednesday. President Reagan opened the door Wednesday for 11,500 fired air traffic controllers to again seek federal jobs — but not in the flight towers. J. Frank Huskins of Burnsville said Wednesday he plans to retire from the N. C. Supreme Court sometime after the first of the year. He has held court in Columbus a number of times. John Dusenbury called Thurs day morning from New York City to give us an ad. He is renting a private plane to fly down and back over the holidays and will have two extra seats in it. The nine-year-old Queen, who is a student in Mrs. Robert Ormand’s fourth grade, will participate in the Columbus Christmas Parade this Saturday. Her hobbies are dancing and swimming and she is currently a member of the Spartanburg Swim Team and competes in the State A. A. New Arrival Mr. and Mrs. Joe Baker Breedlove, Jr. of Rt. 2, Mill Spring are parents of a daughter, Trisha Marie, born November 30th at Rutherford Hospital. — Rutherford County News A New Arrival Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bradford Foster of Tryon are parents of a son, Charles Daniel, born December 8th at Rutherford Hospital. He has a brother, Joseph Miles, age 4. The maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Gray Newman of Tryon and the paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. James Bradford Foster of Columbus. The maternal great- grandmother is Mrs. Harriet Newman of Tryon and the paternal great-grandparents are Mrs. Pearl Foster of Columbus, Ms. Raleigh McGraw of Tryon and Frank McGraw of Chimney Rock. Woods Fire The Tryon Volunteer Fire Department was called to a grass and woods fire at the South Carolina - North Carolina state line near the Block House. The fire was started when a tree went across a power line, knocking it to the ground. 16 Pages Today Price 10c Per Copy Mrs. Betty Welhener The Tryon City Office of the North Carolina National Bank announces the retirement of Mrs. Herbert E. (Betty) Welhener December 31,1981. Mrs. Welhener moved to this area from Honolulu, Hawaii in 1970 and was employed by NCNB in February, 1971. She is the daughter of Mrs. Timothy A. |Tredwell and the late Mr. Tredwell of Columbus. Mrs. Welhener is a member of the Church of the Holy Cross and Tryon Country Club and has two daughters, one son and five grandchildren, all of whom live in Arizona.
